Children’s Books

Hop, Jump, and Skip Count!

Endorsed by the Mathematical Association of America, this imaginative book leads children into a world full of numbers and patterns as they hop, skip, and jump. The book begins by guiding children to pretend they are in a forest and hop and jump on a pattern of stones in the river. Next, children find themselves in the city on a rainy day, and jump in a different pattern of puddles on the sidewalk. Last,  readers are transported to fantasy world made of candy. Children jump on a new pattern of marshmallows as they cross the chocolate river. These imaginary journeys help children visualize skip counting patterns inside their heads and feel those same patterns in rhythm and movement. Through this active engagement of mind and body, numbers come to life!

Illustrations are by Rebecca and Steven Sugar, the award-winning creators of Steven Universe.
