About this Workshop
This arts integration STEM workshop trains teachers to use creative movement to develop spatial reasoning and bring geometry to life. Too often students simply learn the vocabulary of geometry. Many fail to develop the visualization skills that allow them to slide, flip, and rotate geometric structures inside their heads.
Creative movement contributes powerfully to the development of geometric thinking. In this foundational workshop, learn how to guide students to use stretchy dance bands, collaborate with partners, and transform lines and angles through 3-dimensional space. When students see and feel parallel, perpendicular and intersecting line come to life, their learning is deep and long-lasting. After using their bodies move acute, right, obtuse, and opposite angles through space, students easily identify geometric structures in the world around us!
